Abstract
Letter to European Comission – Artificial Inteligence and Robotics de 2017.
[Abstract] It seems obvious to mention the importance of social networks and ICT in all areas of Western society, so that their extended use has caused the coinage of what we now know as “digital society”. Cabero Almenara and others point out that this digital society is increasingly involved as citizens through these tools, that function as democratizing mechanisms. However, although other problems related to the digital divide must be solved, even in our closest circles, the indiscriminate use of ICT has highlighted other problems related to their use as could be the lack of criticism in their approach. In this sense, Media Education is necessary. A work that has been already materialized in some educational areas, appearing not only as a cross-sectional content, but as a subject in thecurricula. Talking about pre-service teachers training, who currently are between 18 and 25 years old, that is, digital natives, this need becomes even more evident. But, how train digital natives in this field? What is their opinion about Artificial Intelligence? Do they address all these issues from a critical perspective? Do they value its importance for the sake of democratic citizenship? To answer these questions, the objective of this communication, we have used a sample of students from the 2nd grade of Primary Education Bachelor Degree of the Faculty of Education Sciences of the University of Córdoba. Within the subject of Media Education and ICT Applications, those students have worked and reflected, among other things, on extracts from the article by Martí Petit “For a critique of algorithmic reason. State of the art on artificial intelligence, its influence on politics and its regulation” in which the Open Letter to European Commission - Artificial Intelligence and Robotics of 2017 is analyzed. Using critical literacy as a methodology, it is analysed their perspective on all these issues and above all, their position on the challenge of being a teacher in our digital society.
