dc.description.abstract | [Abstract] This work argues that the pedagogical “mission” to “save” the country was con- ceived by Oliveira Salazar with conceptual and ideological instruments of the seminary that would mark his education and catholic militancy, ideas which he would never abandon –not even when he was appointed Finance Minister by the government in 1928. The first part of the article attempts to identify the political and social contexts prevailing at the time when Salazar was born and growing up and follows his rise to power. In the second part we offer our inter- pretation of his pedagogical “mission”, its political an ideological structure and how, over the course of his 36 years as President of the Cabinet, he sought to cement this pedagogical “mis- sion” to save the country. Lastly we will enumerate the educational policies of the New Sate and show how they differ from other contemporary fascist theories. | es_ES |
