Abstract
[Abstract] : The objective of this study is to analyze the relationships between school learning and the level of daily physical activity, the Body Mass Index (BMI), and executive functions (specifically working memory and inhibitory control) in the last course of early childhood education. Several studies show that both the level of physical activity and the Body Mass Index are related to school performance and learning (Datar and Sturn, 2006; Hollar et al., 2010 a,b). However, there is little research about the origins of this relationship in the Early Childhood Education stage. In order to analyze these relationships, an investigation was carried out with 39 boys and girls aged 5-6 who are in sixth year of Early Childhood Education. An objective measurement of physical activity was made through an accelerometer, examining the steps taken during a week. All of them are registered height and weight for the calculation of BMI. School performance was assessed by teachers based on the results of the final evaluation of the 2018-2019 academic year. For the assessment of executive functions, the CHEXI questionnaire for parents was used. The results support the existence of a positive correlation between activity level and learning outcomes. It concludes about the need to improve the lifestyle and diet during childhood, not only to have a healthier life, but also a better development in the academic field.
