[Abstract]
We usually understand the activity of architects designing and
projecting buildings, as well as interventions of an urban nature, being able
to go further, designing the decoration of interior spaces and the furniture
itself, as can be seen in a special way from the eighteenth century. It will be
the design of the furnishing and decoration of commercial spaces where they
show one of their most interesting facets, seeking to surprise the viewer and
show the importance of these establishments, differentiating themselves from the competition, letting their imagination run wild, with often surprising
results. This is the case of a renowned eclecticist architect who worked in
Galicia at the end of the 19th and beginning of the 20th centuries, Juan de
Ciórraga, author of the furnishings of the Basanta pharmacy in Vilalba
(Lugo) and the plans of the building that housed it, in what will be his only
decorative work known at the moment, which is of special interest.
