Resumen
[Abstract] Among the acclaimed writers of Portuguese literature for children, Sidónio Muralha, Matilde Rosa Araújo and Luísa Ducla Soares are names of reference. Sidónio stands out among the pioneers of poetic works for children and Matilde was the most highly recognized Portuguese writer of children’s poetry in the second half of the twentieth century. For her part, Luísa Ducla Soares continues to publish works of unquestionable quality. One of the elements that the three authors have in common is that they target two audiences: adults and children and adolescents, venturing into different genres, including poetry. Launching publications at different times during the twentieth century (from the 1940s to the 1970s), they were linked to different literary movements. They have all made a great contribution to the magnificence of Portuguese poetry for children (and Luísa continues to do so at the present time).
In this article, I will try to show how, in their poetry for children, Sidónio Muralha, Matilde Rosa Araújo and Luísa Ducla Soares pursued themes that were dear to them, expressing emotions and values identical to those that mark the poetry they wrote for adult audiences, without neglecting their own styles. In spite of these ties, they knew how to pen their texts, with superb writing directed at young readers.
