Conocimiento cultural del suicidio: análisis comunicacional de adultos jóvenes con y sin intento de suicidio, del área metropolitana de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México

Abstract

[Resumen] Este estudio tiene como objetivo identificar a partir del análisis de expresiones comunicativas, el conocimiento cultural y los significados culturales del suicidio y del intento de suicidio, en población adulta joven de la ciudad de Guadalajara, Jalisco, México, desde la comunicación y una perspectiva comunicacional, de índole construccionista y psicocultural. Para este estudio se recurrió al uso de tres acercamientos metodológicos. A través de un acercamiento cualitativo se buscó conocer los significados del suicidio y del intento de suicidio mediante la aplicación de entrevistas semiestructuradas a los participantes. Para identificar la estructura semántica de las expresiones comunicativas de los participantes y el conocimiento cultural del suicidio y el intento de suicidio, se utilizó el modelo del consenso cultural. A fin de contar con información sobre el ambiente familiar de los participantes, se aplicó una escala de evaluación de las relaciones intrafamiliares, que evalúala percepción de las relaciones familiares de los participantes, en tres dimensiones. Estas dimensiones evalúan el tipo de comunicación que se establece en la familia en torno al conflicto, la unidad y la expresión de los sentimientos y las ideas. Estas herramientas metodológicas nos permitieron identificar acciones, interacciones y circunstancias de la vida de los participantes, que generan significado del suicido y del intento de suicidio, su conocimiento cultural acerca de los mismos y algunos factores psicoculturales de riesgo suicida. La comunicación es el eje del análisis de los significados y del conocimiento cultural sobre el suicidio y el intento de suicidio, como es posible observar a lo largo del desarrollo de este estudio.

[Abstract]This study has the objective to identify the cultural knowledge and the cultural meanings of suicide from the analysis of communicative expressions, as well as the suicide attempt of the young adult population in the city of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico form the communication point of view and a communicational perspective with a psycho-cultural and constructionist focus. For this communicational and a psycho-cultural study, three methodological methods were used. Through a qualitative approach it was searched to know the meaning of the suicide and the suicide attempt through the application to different participants of semi structured interviews. To identify the semantic structure and the cultural knowledge of suicide and suicide attempt the Cultural Consensus Model was used. By the means of having information about the familiar environment of the participants, an evaluation scale was applied to measure their inter familiar relations, which evaluate the kind of communication stablished in the family towards conflict, unity, feelings expression and ideas in three different dimensions. These methodological tools have allowed us to identify actions, interactions and circumstances of the participants’ life, which generate the meaning of the suicide and suicide attempt, their cultural knowledge about themselves and some other psycho cultural factors of suicide risk. The communication is the main point of analysis of suicide’s and suicide attempt’s meanings and cultural knowledge, as it can be observed through the development of this study.
